Signs You May Be Able to Keep Your Wisdom Teeth

Posted on 5/20/2019 by Office - Boone DMD
Signs You May Be Able to Keep Your Wisdom TeethRemoving wisdom teeth is one of the most common dental procedures, but is it always necessary? While some people may be under the impression that they will have to eventually have their wisdom teeth removed, that's not always the case. You may actually be able to keep these teeth for your entire life! Here are some signs that your wisdom teeth don't have to come out.

Wisdom Teeth Come in Normally

One common issue that leads to wisdom teeth removal is that they come in impacted. However, if your wisdom teeth erupted normally and didn't cause any issues with your back teeth, there may be no problem with them. You may not have any sensitivity or pain in your wisdom teeth or the gums around them. If that's the cause, there's no real reason to have them removed.

You Clean them Correctly
Wisdom teeth can become riddled with cavities because some people don't clean them correctly. They're so far back I the mouth that it can be difficult to thoroughly brush them and floss between them. If you really want to keep your wisdom teeth, make certain that you do take the time to brush them properly. Also, don't skip on your six-month cleanings. We will make certain that your wisdom teeth are as strong and as clean as they can be each time you come in.

They Don't Hurt
Many people end up having their wisdom teeth taken out because they cause pain. If you haven't felt any pain in the back of your mouth and your wisdom teeth aren't causing any other issues, you should be able to keep them.

Wisdom teeth can be tricky, so you need to make certain you always visit us every six months for a cleaning and check-up. We will pay close attention to your wisdom teeth to make certain they haven't become a problem. Call us today to make an appointment.
