The Importance of Staying Relaxed During a Dental Emergency

Posted on 10/20/2018 by Office - Boone DMD
The Importance of Staying Relaxed During a Dental EmergencyThinking clearly during an emergency may mean the difference between a successful outcome and failure. It's hard to remain calm when you suffer an injury of any kind, but the more relaxed you are, the better we will be able to serve you.

During emergencies, time is critical for a positive outcome. For example, if you suffer a blow to the mouth that knocks off a tooth, it's natural to panic and think of a million things that will result from that injury. However, if you know that coming in within the hour will help us reattach your tooth successfully, you will help yourself to keep that tooth.

How to Stay Calm During a Dental Emergency

When we suffer an injury, it's natural to worry and lose our composure. The more severe the damage, the more panic, but this can be counterproductive when we are trying to treat your injuries. Some simple techniques can help you remain calm.

•  Inform yourself or ask someone to look up information - with the availability of cell phones, you find information online at any time. The more information you have, the better you will feel about your situation.
•  Focus on taking deep breaths to soothe yourself.
•  Ask questions about your treatment if able.
•  Try to relax your body to release tension.

Anyone can suffer an emergency at any time. Unexpected events hit us when we least expect them and when we suffer from dental injuries we need treatments as quickly as possible.

Trying to keep a panicked patient still to treat them is challenging, and we understand being upset about the situation and will do all we can to make you comfortable. Being informed about how to stay relaxed during a dental emergency can help us take care of you, but we will try to put you at ease as much as possible.
