Ways of Treating Bruxism May Include a Mouth Guard Do you clench or grind your teeth? If so, you need to speak to us about getting a mouth guard at night. Many of our patients have realized success by adding a mouth guard to their dental routine. Not only should you brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss each day, you should also protect your teeth from clenching or grinding while you sleep. A mouth guard can make a big difference, especially if your teeth are badly worn.

What Happens If Bruxism Is Not Treated?

If you don't use a mouth guard at night to protect your teeth from the pressure of grinding or clenching, you will experience a host of dental issues. These issues may include problems with your bite, which can lead to problems with chewing. The wearing down of teeth also affects the enamel and any dental restorations you have in place. The longer you go without a treatment plan, the more erosion, tooth decay, and gum problems surface over time. That is why we recommend that you see us every six months or more, in some cases, and use a mouth guard at night.

How a Mouth Guard Is Fitted

If you do choose to have a customized mouth guard made, you are making a wise decision. We recommend having the guard made by us, so you won't have problems with slippage or fit. If you buy a cheaper mouth guard at the store, you cannot be guaranteed of a good fit. We take 3D images of your mouth to have a mouth guard made. Mouth guards may also be fabricated by having impressions made. If you would like to find a reliable solution for bruxism, you will find a good deal of relief by having a customized mouth guard made. Use the guard at night after you brush your teeth. It will keep you from grinding and clenching your teeth and will also support better alignment of the teeth.
