Dealing With Sinus Pain

Posted on 12/23/2021 by Office - Boone DMD
Dealing With Sinus PainIf you have sinus pressure, you know how the pain could be unbearable at times. Sinus pressure is not only inconvenient but also causes loss of sleep. You may experience pain when eating, in addition to overall agonizing discomfort. Sinus infections and seasonal allergies can cause sinus pressure. Additionally, they can result in toothaches if the cavities of the sinus are swollen and inflamed. If the swelling makes the pressure move down on the teeth beneath the nasal passages, it can lead to tooth pain. Often, the pain occurs in the upper back teeth since they are close to the sinus cavity.

Is it a Sinus Toothache or a Regular Toothache?

Typically, a toothache not arising from sinus problems majorly involves one tooth. However, if you have a sinus toothache, the discomfort is felt in several teeth, specifically the back teeth or top molars. If you have a toothache accompanied by sinus problems, you will experience symptoms such as ear pain, thick, discolored mucus, and bad-tasting nasal drip. You may also have pressure or tenderness around your eyes or even your forehead. Also, you may have a sore throat and an inability to taste or smell.

Dealing with Sinus-Induced Pain

If you have toothache as a result of sinus problems, eat foods that combat inflammation, such as omega-3 fatty acids. Besides, ensure you drink lots of water and stay hydrated. Rinse the sinuses using a saline solution to clear any discharge. The rinsing also aids to moisturize the sinuses. It is always crucial that you see a dentist if you suspect a sinus inflammation. A dentist may also perform X-rays and check your mouth for other issues such as abscesses, areas of decay, or any breakages. Visit our dental office if you have sinus pain that is causing toothaches. Our team will find out the cause of the sinus problem and offer the right treatment.
