What Age is Too Young For Braces?

Posted on 6/6/2022 by Office - Boone DMD
What Age is Too Young For Braces? Many experts suggest that children who need braces get them in their early adolescence. In general, you it is best to wait until all their permanent teeth come in.  Braces for children are frequently seen as a rite of passage in their dental health journey. Almost every kid will require orthodontic treatment.

Wait For Permanent Teeth to Erupt

When the permanent teeth come in all the way, it is usually suggested that they have braces. This does not preclude you from taking your child to an orthodontist right away. Even if the child does not have all of their grown up teeth, they may benefit from seeing an orthodontist as soon as possible. When your child should wear braces, an orthodontist can assist you. They will often ask questions related to your child's dental health. Orthodontists are able to determine whether a patient is a good candidate for braces, even if they have only a few permanent teeth.

Improved Oral Hygiene

Children wearing braces usually develop better dental hygiene habits. Braces require a lot of maintenance, and your child will be responsible for the most of it. Once adolescents get into the practice of caring for their braces, they tend to keep such habits well into adulthood. By improving oral hygiene habits, fewer dentist visits are required. An oral hygiene program can assist in preventing cavities, and fewer fillings are necessary. Braces provide a few benefits for you and your child.

Look For The Signs

If you are uncertain about obtaining braces for your child, there are a few crucial considerations to consider. One such obstacle is trouble chewing food. If you see your child having difficulty eating and they don't have any cavities or loose teeth, you may want to look into some type of dental gear. Teeth can develop incorrectly at times. If you see that your children's teeth are growing crooked or incorrectly, it is worthwhile to look into early orthodontic treatment. It may help you determine whether or not an interceptive strategy is necessary for your child or if you should wait until they have all of their permanent teeth. Biting the cheek is another indicator that you should watch out for. Although it is uncomfortable to bite one's cheek, frequent cheek biting may be an indication that the child's teeth are developing incorrectly.
